I’ve been traveling around SEA and conducting demos/training/workshops to tons of Educators and Students and before I start presenting Adobe Acrobat Pro 9, I will always ask this question. “Has anyone used Acrobat before?” Everyone starts raising their hands and whispers who hasn’t. I’ll then clarify:” Cool, but I’m talking about Acrobat 9 Pro and not Acrobat Reader. :)” And the crowd goes all puzzled.
There is always this misconception of Adobe Acrobat being just the reader or a static document with securities. But today, I’m gonna show you something cool which I find very useful for all users from various industries. It is one of the new features available in Acrobat Pro 9 and Acrobat Pro 9 Extended called the PDF Portfolio.
Imagine a tool which enables you to combine documents and images from a wide variety of sources—including text documents, spreadsheets, graphic and image files, PowerPoint presentations, page-layout documents, and even CAD files—into a single, editable, searchable, compressed PDF portfolio. In a PDF portfolio each document can be viewed, edited, and saved separately.
Here is a simple step by step guide (Due to popular demand) to how you can do this in Acrobat Pro 9 or 9 Extended:
Step 1: Go to File > Create PDF Portfolio
Step 2: Head to the bottom left hand corner of the screen and you’ll see: Add Files, Add Existing Folder and Create New Folder.
Step 3: Select your portfolio layout through the panel on the right of the screen under the tab – Choose a Layout
Step 4 – 7: Follow through the tabs on the right of the screen to insert your Welcome Page & Header, Color Scheme, Specifying File Details & lastly Publishing the final Portfolio.
I’ve attached 2 URLs I found online which I find pretty useful for beginners and advance users of this feature:
i) Building your 1st Portfolio: http://layersmagazine.com/acrobat-9-creating-custom-portfolios.html
ii) Building a Better Portfolio: http://layersmagazine.com/build-a-better-portfolio.html
It is so simple to do and I assure you’ll find this feature in Acrobat Pro 9 very useful not just for creating a portfolio for interviews but to consolidate course materials based on modules and enhancing the learning experience for eLearning. Try it 😛
